Privacy notice.
This notice covers the It’s Only Logical website, run by Dara Fitzgerald and Matthew Hooson. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
What we collect and why
The website works without optional analytics. If you allow website analytics, we use PostHog to understand visits, campaign sources, browser and device types, links and buttons used, episode notes opened, scrolling, time spent engaging with sections and embedded video playback. Heatmaps, rage clicks and dead clicks help us spot confusing or unresponsive parts of the page. Loading performance, asset failures and browser errors help us diagnose technical problems.
PostHog uses browser and session identifiers to connect these activities. It can derive an approximate location, such as country or region, from the connection’s IP address before discarding the IP address. We do not ask for your name or email address for analytics, create named visitor profiles or match website visitors with podcast platform accounts. These identifiers still make the information personal data rather than completely anonymous statistics.
If you separately allow session replay, PostHog records a reconstruction of interactions with this public website, including page content, clicks, pointer movement, scrolling and navigation. It does not record your screen outside this website, your microphone or camera, or the video playing inside YouTube’s embedded player. Input fields are masked by default; this website currently has no enquiry or registration form. Console logs and network request or response bodies are not recorded.
We remove URL query strings and fragments from captured page and resource URLs. We keep a limited set of campaign labels and filter technical error information. We do not intentionally send passwords, payment details or email message contents to PostHog.
Your choices
We rely on your consent for optional analytics and, separately, session replay. Both remain off until you allow them. Use at any time to change or withdraw consent. Rejecting optional collection does not prevent you from reading notes, following links or watching an episode. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not automatically erase information already received.
Providers and other platforms
Cloudflare hosts and protects this website and processes connection information needed to deliver it, such as IP addresses and technical request details. We rely on our legitimate interests in delivering a working, secure website for this necessary processing.
PostHog processes optional analytics and replay through its EU Cloud service, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. EU hosting does not mean all provider operations take place only in the EU. PostHog’s privacy information and data processing agreement explain its processing and transfer arrangements.
The YouTube player loads only when you choose “Watch here”. Loading it connects your browser to YouTube, which receives connection and device information. Playing a video can involve YouTube’s own storage and processing. See Google’s privacy policy. Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and our social profiles apply their own policies when you follow a link. We can measure the link click, but cannot confirm a subsequent listen, follow or subscription on those platforms.
If you email us, your email provider and ours process the message. We rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and managing podcast correspondence. We keep the information you send only while needed for the conversation or a relevant record. You do not have to contact us to use the website. We do not add email contents to website analytics.
Retention
Our free PostHog plan retains analytics events for up to one year. Session replay is configured for 30 days. We review whether retained information is still useful and delete it when no longer needed. Provider expiry and deletion can take time to complete. Browser storage has separate lifetimes, described in the cookie policy.
Your rights and requests
You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests by emailing us. We will consider your circumstances and stop that processing unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue or need it for legal claims.
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict use of your personal information, to object to processing or request a portable copy. You can withdraw consent using Cookie settings. Email us for other requests; because we do not collect names for analytics, we may need information that helps locate the relevant browser or session record. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority.
We will update this notice when the website’s use of information changes.
